The population of Logan County, WV has a population of 36,000. It's hill country. And coal mining country. And for reasons that aren't quite clear, it's diabetes country. A 2008 Centers for Disease Control report put the estimated rate of diabetes in Logan County at 14.8 percent, the highest in the United States. No family has been hit harder than the Blankenships.
