Appalachian Studies Association: The Appalachian Studies Association was formed in 1977 by a group of scholars, teachers, and regional activists who believed that shared community has been and will continue to be important to those writing, researching, and teaching about Appalachia. Tending the Commons: Folklife and Landscape in Southern West Virginia

Appalachia Digital Divide: The Digital Divide in Rural Appalachia (2003, Podber): This project looks at Internet usage within the Melungeon community of Appalachia. Although much has been written on the coal mining communities of Appalachia and on ethnicity within the region, there has been little written on electronic media usage by Appalachian communities, most notably the Melungeons.
Appalachian Culture: This section provides information about the culture of Appalachia, both in terms of overall similarities, but also in terms of the diversity of culture throughout the region.
Appalachian History: This website has a wealth of historical information about the Appalachian region. You can hear a new episode of Appalachian History weekly as a new podcast is posted every Sunday.
Appalachian Region: This section provides information and resources pertaining to the Appalachian region and concerns relevant to its people. You will find a variety of resources here that will likely be useful as health concerns of those residing in the Appalachian region are considered.
Diabetes in Appalachia: This section provides information about Appalachia's relationship to diabetes and diabetes care, and how cultural realities influence attitudes towards the disease and its treatment.
Digital Divide.org: Here you will find thoughts and ideas pertaining to connecting cell phones to the internet.
Digital Divide: An Appalachian Ohio Perspective: The objective of this paper is to assess the role of satellite communication with respect to the Digital Divide in the United States. A secondary objective is to review the capabilities, capacity, and availability of current solutions in light of potential applications in other markets and situations.

Information Age Appalachia (2001): While much of the United States has been reaping the economic benefits of the Information Age, rural and small town Appalachia has been too often left behind. For a variety of reasons, the area substantially lacks adequate access to a robust telecommunications infrastructure. This, in turn, exacerbates the region’s geographical isolation and serves as a barrier to the economic, educational, medical and various other benefits that regions outside of Appalachia – including rural ones – have enjoyed for years. This rural digital divide exists despite the provisions of the Tele-communications Act of 1996 and other initiatives designed to assure access.
Maps of Appalachia: This section provides maps with geographical and economic data to illustrate the geographical definition "Appalachia" as well as various factors influencing the region.
State and National Resources: This section provides contact information and links to local, state, and national resources available for information about and services within the Appalachian Region.
