Hocking County

Hocking County is located in southeast Ohio; 55 miles south of Columbus. The county measures 424 square miles with one of those square miles being water. A 2007 census reported that the county’s population was 28, 959 with 97.7% of that population being white. The median age of a person in Hocking County is 37.7 years old. The median income for a household is $34,261 and the median income for a family is $40,888. About 10.30% of families and 13.50% of the county’s population fall below the poverty line with 11.1% of the county’s population unemployed. The number of adults with employer-based insurance makes up 45.1% of the population, and the number of children with employer-based insurance makes up 52.2% of the population.

Major employers include: Deshler Group/Amanda Bent Bolt Co, General Electric Co, Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Kroger Co, Logan-Hocking Local Board of Education, Smead Manufacturing Co, State of Ohio, and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. There are nine public schools and two non-public schools. Finally, there are two local radio stations and one daily newspaper circulating to 5200 people.

Health Services in Hocking County

There are currently 26 physicians (MDs & DOs) and five dentists working in Hocking County. The county has one registered hospital, Hocking Valley Community Hospital, which holds 75 beds. There are five licensed nursing homes in the county that has a combined total of 634 beds. Lastly, the county has one licensed residential care facility which holds 50 beds. In Hocking County, one will find an urgent care center, named Care Now, and the Hocking County Health Department . A drug and substance abuse center named Behavioral Health Care Services is also available.
