Diabetes: A Family Matter

The Toolkit: Fotonovellas

Fotonovella - Living with Sugar Diabetes

This fotonovella is about a woman who is diagnosed with diabetes, but her family does not give her the support she needs to cope with her new diagnosis of diabetes. As the story unfolds, the interaction between family members suggest ways to discuss better ways to provide support to the person diagnosed with diabetes.

This fotonovella can be viewed as an online file and printed. If you want to format the story into a booklet, you will need to make a copy on a CD-ROM and take it to a local printer. It can be used with diabetes education classes, support groups, and professional education. A discussion guide is also available and can be used after the fotonovella is read. Fotonovellas can be placed in a variety of public places where they might be readily accessed. Places such as beauty parlors, barber shops, laundromats, car washes, automotive repair shops, or other places where people have to wait for services can be good places to make these available. Be creative and find ways you can use these materials in your program and community.
